Its about bloody time,i was in Kamadan English 1 over the weekend and the chat was making my eyes bleed trying to keep up with it, and it was 99% WTS,
WTS,
WTS, etc without a break in every channel, good job anet, there was a time you could actually converse with people in outposts and towns, lets hope this brings some of that back.

Running my game in window mode, while running an explorer window in the background would kill it my PC!

Its not a bad machine, but it takes about 60 seconds just to move out of the game, back to the desktop!

Plus you need a fairly big monitor and a good resolution to see both your game in window mode without being squashed and to be able to view firefox at the same time.

An ingame reporting system isnt a bad idea. All you need do it speak to a guard in an outpost and they give you the option to report a player and you get a very simple email interface.

But it could get exploited! You could have people reporting individuals who do nothing wrong.

Its funny because the moment the first update rolled out people started putting warnings up about the trade spam bans. The response to them was along the lines of "stfu anet cant do anything about it". I really want to see their faces now.

The LFG spam is stupid aswell. You dont need to spam it 13 times instantly after the previous line hits chat.

I hope they start moving the bans towards leechers.

You could use the search system.

Heh maybe you typed "/jump" a few too many times. I wonder if that could get you banned.

Here's a secret, If anet would only INCREASE the string length of party search it would get used more It's a secret though, because Anet doesn't know about it, and wants to keep it that way.......(ignoring every post about it )

**applause to ANet**

I am so glad they are suspending peoples accounts. Maybe people will wake up and stop spamming. Serves them right. Spam the chats and you get penalized plain and simple. I have no sympathy for them.

Hmmm... I'm in school atm, but I was saying "Running to all desert mission locations and outposts, 500g each" in Augury Rock yesterday. I waited until the previous message faded before posting again, but does this still count as spamming?

I was posting in All Chat Channel, by the way.

heh ahh yes.. i guess i do have a bit of a hax that helps me *blush* (dual LCD monitors, 22in (1680*1050) and 17in and a C2D E6600 with 2GB nifty RAM and a WD Raptor) alt tabbing takes me about half a second (sorry!)

Nice idea. Well, like anything, it can be abused just like the current reporting feature. There would simply need to be consequences in place for abusing reporting - disable it and or suspend the abuser.

Hiya, respect for asking . I met somone at Augry yesterday doing that exact thing.. spamming the running message 3 times in a row, then someone else did it.. and they ended up spamming in competition to each other :s

My take is that you are offering a running service aka trade.. and that it should be in the trade section if you are going to repeat the message.

So.. personally speaking i think its fine to say it once in all chat, then if you want to keep saying it, use trade chat and stick to your wise way of waiting until your message dissappears.

At no times is it ok to repeat any message 2 or 3 times in a row or every few seconds, which is what a lot of people do.

But I have a valid concern. What if your in an outpost with about 10 other people, and per usual no one is posting any LFG messages. Their all magically waiting for the party forming fairy to come along and push them together.

You then post LFG in local and/or WTS in the trade channel.

If your the only one posting, and you continue to post "Nuker lfg hard mode" every 15 -30 seconds, it soon looks likes your spamming to an outside observer!

If a mod walked in and saw that, would they assume your spamming simply because your the only one posting and the only one using space on the chat channel?

I assume they evaluate these things carefully and check times and dates and could tell the time between postings. But still......... it could be mistakenly seen as spamming!

:P .Yep i see where you are coming from there. Im sure ANet do, as you say, carefully check log times etc As i said earlier, im sure they err on the side of leniency and so suspend the worst offenders while others that do spam but a bit less so, probably get away with it more.

Be that as it may, you have a valid concern. Hmm, it got me thinking on a tangent..

what about if ANet had a toggle feature for us to view logins to a district....?

ie. you can choose to see if and when anyone enters the district.

This could be useful for traders or anyone looking a group or offering a service.

That way you know there is no point repeating a message unless at least a couple new people have entered the district. (because everyone else will have seen your message already and if they havent responded, generally means they dont want to, so you repeating it doesnt help)

In some districts it would not be useful ie the big centres. For outposts however it could be very useful, and help reduce spam and reduce needless re messaging. Thoughts?

It is still no excuse to spam nor to sell in all chat.

Just an idea - would removing the Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V and pressing the up and down arrow keys in the chat bar help stop spamming? You can still see messages that have been posted before by scrolling up the message box that you get when you press `, but if you want to type a message you have to type it all over again, and typing "Selling Chaos Axe req.9 20/20 +30hp" over and over again would tire anobody out, and help to slow down the rate at which individuals can post messages if they're really determined to spam.

Well I've noticed a decrease in trade spam in the local chat, but there is still spam in local and trade chat.

GG Anet. I think it is good that people are actually getting banned for breaking the EULA. And for all that say, "WTF why'd I get banned?!", I suggest you reread (or even read) the EULA.

Here's a link: http://www.guildwars.com/support/leg...-agreement.php

(j) In the Game(s), characters have the privilege of sending server wide messages called "Chat Messages." With this privilege comes a high level of responsibility on the part of the user. This includes but is not limited to: inappropriate language of any sort or any attempt to escape the profanity filter, inappropriate or vulgar content of any sort, repeated "spamming," or "flooding" of the chat messages channel, or any other conduct determined to be inappropriate by NC Interactive Support, in its sole discretion. Any violation of this term or rules of conduct may, in the sole discretion of NC Interactive, lead to the temporary removal of the character's ability to communicate, the account being suspended for a set period of time, or lead to permanent account closure.
Oh and flooding in chat would be like:

LFG [PuG text]
LFG [PuG text]
LFG [PuG text]
LFG [PuG text]
LFG [PuG text]
*excess messaging warning*

If your trying to sell an item, and you need to make an advert that is VERY long. You DO NOT want to have to retype it everytime.

This would just annoy those traders and chatter who use the system correctly. You cant punish the ones who play good, just to punish those who play wrong.

I am not saying it is, but desperate times call for desperate measures (Yes i am refering to lootscaling, kinda obvious ) I don't condone that people spam in all chat, or trade chat. But as it is now, anet wants us to make money, not on merching but on selling stuff to other players. To actually sell anything people need to get other peoples attention. The more people are doing this, the harder it get's to get attention. There for spamming in chat and trade becomes natural to get to other people.

If only Anet would give an official statement (which they will not because Ihave rissen the fact numerous times, in numerous threads with out any response on it) on why they are not Improving Party Search to facilitate better trading.

Wouldn't gw just be great if you go to a town, open party search you would get a list of what people offer with full stats on threre.

Every trader knows and loaths the string limit on party search. Just increasing it to the same size of normal chat would already be great. (Gaile, Andrew or any other Anet representative, if you are reading this Please awnser ...)

have people even noticed a decrease in trade spam spilling over into all chat? the few times ive logged, major outposts seem to be the same as before... spam central in both trade and all chat.

i dont play guildwars too much now, so i dont care if i get banned for the 3 days or whatever, but for kicks i decided to test anets new banning system.

ive logged on the past 3 consecutive days at around 10pm est and spammed all chat in multiple outposts and different districts with various iterations of SELLING, BUYING, W > T > S, etc. for upto 30 to 45 minutes.

nothing. i havent been banned. maybe i need to spam for longer periods of time. i would test for longer lengths of time but that would just be too mind numbingly boring.
